976-Evil: Hoax (Stephen Geoffreys), the nerdy teen hero of 976-EVIL, spends most of his time envying his super-cool, biker cousin, Spike, when he's not being bullied at school or oppressed at home by his religious fanatic mother. Things take a radical turn when Hoax begins calling a toll-free phone number that provides daily "horrorscopes," and he becomes possessed by a demonic force that enters his mind and body via the telephone line. Soon he's taking violent revenge on all those who crossed him. The film is directed by Robert Englund, best known as Freddy Krueger from the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series. Rated BBFC 18 by the British Board of Film Censors. Estimated budget of $3 million. Began shooting October 12, 1987. Released in the USA March 24, 1989. Released on video October 5, 1989.
